Shop Local First: Austin
Big box stores, national chains, and ecommerce giants have grown to dominate Austin’s economy. But they aren’t investing here. Only $14 out of every $100 spent at Big Retail goes back into Austin’s economy. If you spend that $100 at an Austin-owned business then $48 gets reinvested right back here. If you want to help create Austin jobs, strengthen connections between neighbors, and grow our economy then shopping Austin first is the best and fastest way to do it!
Austin has a Texas-sized reputation for being a fun, laidback city, and its local shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues certainly add to ATX’s world-renowned cool vibe. With so many unique, exciting options for shopping local in Austin, there’s hardly ever a need to visit a big box store or chain restaurant.

Best Places To Bring Visitors
Barton Springs Pool – It’s always a good idea to plan some time to cool off in ATX where temperatures range from mild to sweltering, depending on the time of year. Barton Springs Pool, fed with cool water from underground springs, is the perfect place to take a refreshing dip.

Best Places To Celebrate
Pease Park – With its awesome playground, splash pad, and treehouse, Pease Park is the perfect spot for kids’ birthday parties.

Sometimes You Have to Answer the Call Yourself…
No matter how great a city is, smart entrepreneurs will see gaps in markets, customers who aren’t being served, or new products and services that aren’t being adequately offered. Geoff encourages any Austin entrepreneurial hopefuls to look for those openings, take the plunge, and join the Austin small business community.
